Well-traveled former South Florida wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is back on an active NFL roster.
The Los Angeles Chargers elevated Valdes-Scantling from their practice squad and he saw action in the team's 24-16 loss Sunday at Buffalo. He was targeted on one pass, but did not have a reception.
The Chargers are MVS's seventh NFL team since he was drafted by Green Bay in 2018. He has also played for Kansas City, Buffalo, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Pittsburgh. He signed in the off-season this year with Dallas but was released when the Cowboys made their final roster cuts.
Valdes-Scantling played for the Bulls from 2016-17
In the 2023 Super Bowl, he was on the team when Kansas City beat Philadelphia 38-35. A year later, he caught a 16-yard touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII as Kansas City beat San Francisco 25-22 in overtime.
The Chargers added him after suffering multiple injuries to their wide receivers. At age 31, MVS remains a reliable option for a team needing depth at that position. In nine NFL seasons, he has 219 receptions and 21 touchdowns.
In five games last season for Pittsburgh, he had 10 receptions and a touchdown.
In two seasons with USF, he had 75 catches for 1,294 yards and 11 touchdowns.
MVS is one of two Bulls currently on an NFL roster. Offensive lineman Donovan Jennings is the backup left guard for Green Bay. Offensive lineman Demontrey Jacobs is on Arizona's practice squad.
