Having successfully turned what was supposed to be a nail-biter at North Texas into a 27-point blowout, 19th-ranked USF turns its attention to Florida Atlantic, its designated American Conference "rival."

The game between these two Florida teams will never match the passion between the Bulls and that team out East in the War on I-4. However, putting that inconvenient truth aside, The Owls have USF's full attention because they are the next step in a march toward what the Bulls hope will be a conference championship.

A win would move the Bulls to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the American. This would be the fourth time USF started 3-0 in the conference and would be its best overall start since 2018. That was Charlie Strong's ill-fated team that started the season 7-0 only to finish 7-6.

These Bulls are cooking with grease, as my mama used to say.

They've averaged 60 points per game in their last three outings, and quarterback Byrum Brown is en fuego. He has accounted for 14 touchdowns in those games. He is accounting for an average of 18 points per game, which ranks seventh in the nation.

Oh, and it's the Homecoming game, too. It marks the third consecutive year the Bulls and Owls have played each other on Homecoming -- twice in Tampa, and last year in Boca Raton. A cautionary note: the visiting team won the two previous games.
