Crawling around online to see what other sites felt about USF's wide receiver room for this season led to a surprise.
Apparently, the Bulls' receiving corps isn't registering on many radars at this point. You hear about Memphis and Tulane in the American Conference. UNLV is supposed to be loaded. Liberty has some supporters.
But USF?
The people who make predictions apparently don't know what to make of these guys, so they basically make nothing at all. They look at all the transfers and the new coaching staff, shrug their shoulders, and take a wait-and-see attitude toward this team.
That's probably fair. The Bulls lost an enormous amount of firepower from that unit with the mass exodus to Auburn after last season. Jeremiah Koger, Chas Nimrod, Christian Singleton, and Keshaun Singleton all departed the Bay for the loveliest village on the plain.
That's a combined 149 catches, 2,275 yards, and 20 touchdowns from last year alone that left town.
And, as Sean Havens of Bulls247 pointed out, "USF currently has no players on the roster with over 500 total yards of offense, yet they do have a total of five receivers with over 200 yards."
They've got some proving to do.
They also have six receivers from power conference schools like Ohio State (Bryson Rodgers), Purdue (Arhmad Branch), and Stanford (Mudia Reuben, a holdover from last year).
USF also has a head coach who is renowned for developing elite receivers at Ohio State. That ought to at least count for a few sheckles. And there is plenty of talent in green and gold to develop.
Rodgers, a local guy from Wiregrass High School about a half-hour from the USF campus, is ready to show what he can do after understandably being unable to break through at Ohio State. He was locked behind arguably the best receiving group in the country and will now get his chance to prove why he was so highly regarded coming out of high school.
Reuben really came alive down the stretch last year and chose to stay rather than join the express train to Auburn.
Kenny Odom had 62 catches for 582 yards and six touchdowns last season at UTEP. Cameron Seldon had 23 receptions for 165 yards and two touchdowns last season at Virginia Tech.
And let's not forget, this unit likely will have a quarterback with power conference experience throwing to them. Michael Bennett Jr. started the last half of 2025 for LSU and performed well considering the program was in shambles by that point. Luke Kromenhoek arrived after stops at Florida State and Mississippi State. He was a 4-star coming out of high school, as was Bennett.
New head coach Brian Hartline's reputation as a wide receiver whisperer preceded his arrival in Tampa. He has constantly stressed that he and his staff looked for the "right" qualities in a player beyond his ability to run fast and catch passes.
Makeup. Coachability. Team first. Hartline values those traits just as much as the raw talent. In fact, he is willing to take a chance on a player with the right stuff even if the talent doesn't lead to an eye-popping number of stars next to his recruiting profile.
That's another way of saying that this unit could be way better than a lot of people think.
