USF moved swiftly to replace wide receivers coach L`Damian Washington after his move to Kentucky became official Tuesday. The Bulls hired Kodi Burns as co-Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach and Wide Receivers Coach.

Burns was on the Tennessee coaching staff in 2021 with Bulls head coach Alex Golesh. He has 10 years of college coaching experience and two as wide receivers coach with the New Orleans Saints of the NFL.

He also won a national title as a player at Auburn and an SEC Championship as both a player and coach there.

"Kodi is a winner who has had great success developing players at both the collegiate and NFL level," Golesh said.

"I am very excited to have him join our staff, lead our wide receiver group, and help us continue to build one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Kodi is a process-driven coach who cares greatly for his players. We worked very well together for a season at Tennessee. He knows our system, and he will be a great mentor for our players."

While playing at Auburn, Burns spent two years as a quarterback before moving to wide receiver for his final two seasons. He scored the first touchdown in the BCS national championship game on a 35-yard reception. Auburn completed a 14-0 season with a win in the title game over Oregon.

Burns served six years on the coaching staff at Auburn, where he was co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach from 2016-20 before moving to Tennessee. He also had coaching stops at Arkansas State, Samford, and Middle Tennessee State.

The news that Washington was targeted for the wide receivers coach job at Kentucky broke on Saturday. He spent two years with the Bulls and was instrumental in helping Sean Atkins become a record-breaking receiver.
