The just-released EA Sports College Football 25 video game is all the rage among fans, and I would love to play it. Alas, I would have to replace my apparently antiquated X-Box One and upgrade to a new system, the suggestion of which drew upraised eyebrows from my wife.

But, eureka! My eldest son lives nearby and has the game, so I asked him to simulate USF’s season for me. Being an obedient offspring – although admittedly with the character flaw that he prefers the University of Florida to USF – he complied.

What follows now is a game-by-game account of the game's predictions for the Bulls in the coming season.

Spoiler alert: I think some of the game’s conclusions are loopy.

Bethune-Cookman University: The game says USF will win 30-7, although it lists the opponent as FCS Southeast. I think the predicted score is a little lighter than what will actually happen, but a win is a win. Record: 1-0.

At Alabama: Crimson Tide fans predict a rout as payback for the Bulls making ‘Bama work harder than it wanted to for a win last year. The game says ‘Bama will have to work hard again but will prevail 17-14. Record: 1-1.

At Southern Mississippi: This game is a possible trap, coming on the road and between high-profile encounters with Alabama and Miami. But the game gods like the Bulls to prevail 34-26. Record: 2-1.

Miami: We’ll have more to say about how the game feels about Miami at the end of this piece, but for now it predicts the Bulls will fight their tails off but lose 29-28. EA Sports should simulate Bulls coach Alex Golesh saying afterward that there are no moral victories. Record: 2-2.
