With USF’s football training camp less than a month away, anticipation is building about what quarterback Byrum Brown can accomplish in coach Alex Golesh’s madcap offensive scheme.

We were all witnesses to what Brown did as a red-shirt freshman: 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 809 yards rushing (tops on the team), and 11 more TDs. He even caught two passes.

More importantly, he led the Bulls to their first winning season since 2018 and a 45-0 Boca Raton Bowl rout of Syracuse.

But as intriguing as it is to imagine what Brown can accomplish if he stays at USF for his entire college career (someone please put a padlock on the transfer portal), it’s too soon to place him atop the Bulls’ quarterback rankings. We need more than one full season before placing him ahead of these three Bulls’ QBs from days gone by.

They were special, too.
