No. 1: Quinton Flowers. I don’t think anyone can reasonably argue against this choice. Not only was Flowers the best quarterback in USF’s 27-year history of playing college football, but he might also be the best player – period – ever to wear a Bulls’ uniform.
From 2014-17, he threw 71 touchdown passes against 23 interceptions and rushed for 3,669 yards and 41 touchdowns, including 18 TDs in 2016.
The Bulls were a combined 21-4 in his last two seasons under center and had Birmingham Bowl wins over South Carolina and Texas Tech.
He also made a lot of money for former USF coach Willie Taggart.
Taggart’s job was hanging by a silk thread midway through his third season. The Bulls started that year 1-3 after combining for 6-16 in Taggart’s first two seasons. At that point, Flowers convinced Taggart to turn him loose. USF went to Syracuse, won 45-24, and won six of their next seven games.
That put Taggart back on the map, and he parlayed that into lucrative contracts at Oregon and Florida State.
