USF continued to make news in multiple sports in recent days.
Head football coach Alex Golesh has already put a strong recruiting Class of 2025 together, and it just better.
The Bulls scored a big win in recruiting when Mike Singer of On3.com reported that running back Chase Garnett from Argyle Liberty Christian High School in Texas chose USF over multiple Power 5 schools. He also had offers from Arizona, Boise State, Minnesota, and others.
“I chose USF because I really love the coaching staff, and I know Coach Golesh and Coach James will be able to develop me and help me perform to the best of my abilities,” Garnett told On3.
“I also love the direction the program is going in with them building all brand-new facilities, new stadium and going into a new power conference, I feel like it’s a great set up for me to be successful.”
Going into a new power conference?
Does this young running back know something we don’t yet know?
Garnett, who is 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, further enhances head coach Alex Golesh's impressive recruiting haul on the offensive side of the ball.
BULLS WILL BE REPRESENTED AT PARIS OLYMPICS
USF sprinters Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and Zahria Allers-Liburd will compete for their home countries in the Olympics.
Rasheed will compete for Ghana in the men's 100m dash and will join Ghana’s 4x100m relay team.
Allers-Liburd will compete for St. Kitts and Nevis in the women's 100m dash.
USF graduate Romaine Beckford will compete in the high jump. She is a two-time NCAA champion.
BASEBALL BRINGS BRYAN PETERS BACK AS AN ASSISTANT COACH
Bryan Peters, who was a player and coach for USF, returns to his old stomping grounds as an assistant with new head coach Mitch Hannahs.
Peters played at USF from 1995-96 and helped the Bulls win Metro Conference and Conference USA championships. He later filled multiple roles on the baseball staff over nine years.
He returns to USF after four seasons as an assistant at Long Beach State. He also coached at Pittsburgh, High Point, UCF, and Stetson.
BULLS FLASH THEIR SKILL IN THE CLASSROOM
Lest we forget, athletes don’t go to college solely to play their given sport. They are there to get an education, which emphasizes the “student” part of the student-athlete.
USF placed 294 athletes on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for the 2023-24 academic year.
Additionally, Melanie Green (women’s golf), Jake Peacock (men’s golf), Ajmeer Spengler (men’s soccer) and Alvin Tudorica (men’s tennis) were named the AAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in their sports.
