No. 3: USF 23, Notre Dame 20, September 3, 2011.

On one of the most somber and bizarre days in USF history, the Bulls went to storied Notre Dame Stadium and stunned the Irish.

They did so while knowing that back home, former athletic director Lee Roy Selmon – who still worked in the athletic department – was in critical condition after collapsing the previous day. Selmon died the next day.

The bizarre part was how the game played out.

USF led 16-0 on a 96-yard fumble return by Kayvon Webster and three field goals by Maikon Bonani when things got crazy. A lightning storm forced officials to evacuate the stadium for the first time in its history.

Play finally resumed after 2 hours and 10 minutes, but it was halted again for 43 minutes – and the stadium was again evacuated -- with a little over four minutes left in the game.

It was a sweet victory for USF coach Skip Holtz. His father, Lou Holtz, was a coaching icon in South Bend.

Alas, USF couldn’t build on that win and finished the season 5-7. Holtz was fired a year later.
