USF reached back into its Tennessee connection Saturday as On3.com reported the Bulls secured the services of former Vols wide receiver Chas Nimrod through the transfer portal.
Nimrod had entered his name in the portal before the December 28 cutoff, and that left him free to sign with another school.
He was recruited to Tennessee in 2022 by current USF head coach Alex Golesh and Co-Offensive Coordinator Kodi Burns. Both were assistants at Tennessee at the time.
After red-shirting as a freshman, Nimrod, over the next two seasons, played in 23 games with six starts. He had 28 catches for 309 yards with one touchdown.
In 2023, he had a career-best five catches for 44 yards in a start vs. No. 1-ranked Georgia.
According to Tennessee’s website, Nimrod was recruited by 24 other programs, including multiple Power-5 schools, after graduating from Bentonville High School in Arkansas.
Nimrod brings speed to a wide receiver room that loses USF’s all-time leading receiver Sean Atkins. In addition to football, Nimrod participated in track and field while in high school He ran an 11.26 time in the 100-meter dash and 22.08 in the 200, both as a junior.
He is 6-foot-3 and 202 pounds, so that should present an inviting target for USF quarterbacks next season.
Since coming to USF near the end of 2022, Golesh has brought in Burns and tight ends coach Jack Taylor from Tennessee. He also signed cornerback De`Shawn Rucker from the Vols after he entered the portal.
Highly touted tight end Jonathan Echols flipped from Tennessee to USF shortly after Golesh was hired.
Nimrod is the 11th player to sign with the Bulls through the portal since December. Other pickups include defensive lineman Josh Celiscar of Texas A&M, offensive tackle and former Jesuit High School standout Connor McLaughlin Stanford, running back Cartevious Norton of Charlotte, and offensive lineman Thomas Shrader of Appalachian State.
