A promising start against what’s-their-names from Orlando turned sour over the weekend for the USF baseball team.
After opening the three-game series with a 13-3 mercy-rule blowout of UCF, the Bulls were thumped in the final two games, both by the mercy rule.
They were outscored by a combined 24-3 in the two losses, which dropped USF to 6-5 on the year. It also was the first time this season that the Bulls failed to win a series.
USF returns to action Wednesday at Florida Gulf Coast before returning home on Friday, March 7, to start a three-game series against Villanova.
Men’s Track and Field dominates AAC Indoor Meet
team captured its second consecutive American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, finishing with 167.5 points at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
The victory earned the Bulls' men's coaching staff its second straight Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honor.
"This was a total team effort," said Erik Jenkins, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. "We've worked hard all season, and to see the results come together in such a way, with so many athletes stepping up and breaking records, was truly special. We couldn't be prouder of our athletes and staff."
USF’s Saminu Abdul-Rasheed earned the title of Men's Most Valuable Performer. Abdul-Rasheed won the 60-meter and 200-meter dash events, racking up 20 points.
Nikodem Pochopien earned Freshman of the Year honors after securing eight points from runner-up finishes in his events.
South Florida's women's team also shined, with Rushana Dwyer dominating the women's 400m event. Dwyer set a program record of 52.94 seconds. Teammate Amenda Saint Louis joined Dwyer on the podium, finishing third with a time of 53.97 seconds.
The Bulls completed a remarkable sweep in the 200-meter dash, with Abdul-Rasheed taking the gold, followed by Shevioe Reid in second (20.96) and Jaleel Croal in third (21.00).
Both South Florida's men's and women's 4x400m relay teams claimed the champion titles in their events. Both teams set meet records.

Softball at Longhorn Invitational
USF picked up three wins in five games at the University of Texas Longhorn Invitational.
The Bulls dropped New Mexico State, Abilene Christian, and Alabama A&M but were beaten twice by No. 2-ranked Texas.
On Friday, USF led the Longhorns 5-1 after the top of the third inning but saw roar back with eight unanswered runs for a 9-5 victory.
Sunday’s finale for the Bulls ended in a 9-1 loss.
The Bulls come home Wednesday, March 5, to face Sienna in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. They open AAC play on Friday at home against UAB in the first of a three-game series.
Women’s lacrosse returns to win column
The routed St. Bonaventure 19-5 on Sunday, snapping a two-game losing streak and improving to 4-2 for the season.
The 19 goals equaled a team record set in the opener against Kennesaw State. It was also the fewest goals the Bulls have allowed in their brief history.

The Bulls return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at home against Xavier.
Men’s basketball drops a close one against FAU
The final home game of the season turned into a 69-63 loss for USF against Florida Atlantic.
The Bulls honored seniors Quincy Ademokoya, Jamille Reynolds, and Brandon Stroud before the game.
USF fell behind early and trailed by 16 points with 8:15 to play before a rally pulled the Bulls within six points in the final minute. They got no closer, however, and fell for the sixth time in seven games. They are 13-17 overall and 6-11 in the AAC.
USF closes the regular season Friday with a 9 p.m. at Memphis. The game will be carried on ESPN2 and Bulls Unlimited.
