USF news roundup: How to watch the women's basketball game Sunday at UConn
When the USF women’s basketball teams heads to Connecticut today to play the 2nd-ranked Huskies, fans will need a new game plan to watch the game because it will not be available through ESPN-plus, the Bulls’ usual TV outlet.
TV rights for this game belong to SNY/Fox Sports Digital. The subscription service is available only in SNY’s regional territory – Connecticut, New York, and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Out-of-market fans will be able to stream UConn's SNY games at no additional cost to authenticated subscribers who have FOX as part of their television package.
Users will need to sign in with their TV provider credentials at https://www.foxsports.com/ or in the FOX Sports app. The games can also be accessed at www.fox.com/sports or in the FOX Now app.
USF fans can also listen to the game on Bulls Unlimited through Tunein.com.
The Bulls are 2-0 and coming off a 68-51 win over Mount St. Mary’s (Md). Sammie Puisis led USF in that game with 25 points.
Men’s basketball team preps for home-opener
The USF men’s basketball team heads to the Yuengling Center for the Bulls’ home opener on Tuesday against Arkansas Pine Bluff.
Home will no doubt look pretty good to the Bulls, who lost 86-71 on Friday at Charleston Southern to fall to 0-2. USF previously lost the season-opener in Jacksonville to Florida.
Defense has been a problem so far. The Bulls have surrendered 184 points in the two games, and 112 of those have come in the second half.
Against the Gators, USF led by a point after the first half, and trailed by only one at Charleston at the break. But the Cougars scored the first 11 points of the second half and pulled in front 63-46 with about nine minutes left.
USF shot just 33% in the second half, including 2-of-13 (15.38%) on 3-pointers.
Women’s soccer hopes for NCAA bid
The second-seeded women’s soccer squad was eliminated from the American Athletic Conference tournament after losing on penalty kicks to East Carolina in the semifinals.
The Bulls opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over North Texas.
Top-seeded Memphis meets East Carolina on Sunday for the championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Despite the loss, the Bulls should still receive strong consideration for an at-large bid. USF ranks 45th in the latest RPI rankings, which could earn them a spot in the 64-team tournament.
USF golfers take honors.
Bulls golfer Jake Peacock won his second consecutive AAC men’s golf player of the month after leading USF to a dominating 20-stroke win at the FAU Invitational.
In the second round of the tournament Peacock shot 64 and he also had a team-high 14 birdies.
The performance wraps up the fall season for the nation’s 20th-ranked collegiate golfer. He had finishes of 1st, 3rd and 6th during the fall and returns to action on February at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at Georgia Southern.
Also, freshman Cherry Marley the AAC’s women’s golf player of the month for October. Despite two hurricanes that caused havoc with the season, Marley was the only Bull to achieve a top-25 finish during October. Her performance included a low round of two-under 69 (-2) in round two of the Dale McNamara Invitational.
She also posted a team-high 16 birdies for the month of October.
Caroline Dykes reaches volleyball milestone
USF setter became just the 16th active Division I setter to pass 4,000 assists in her career. She reached that mark during the Bulls three-set sweep at Charlotte.
Dykes had 34 assists in the win, giving her 4,009 for her career. She has a chance to add to that total today when the Bulls are at East Carolina
At 11-2 in the conference, USF is tied with Rice for first place. The Bulls are 15-9 overall.
They return home after today’s match for their final two home games of the season, facing Tulane and UAB. The AAC Tournament will start on November 22 in Wichita.
Hall of Fame induction held
USF Athletics held its induction ceremony for the 2024 Hall of Fame class Friday,
The 2024 class includes football’s Matt Grothe, former baseball head coach Eddie Cardieri, men’s soccer’s Jeff Cunningham and men’s golf’s Chase Koepka.
The hall was established in 2009 and these additions brought the total number of inductees to 38.
Grothe was the quarterback for USF from 2004-09 and led the Bulls to an upset of nationally ranked Auburn at Jordan-Haire Stadium. It is one of the top wins in USF history.
Cardierri coached the USF baseball team for 30 years and won 761 games and eight conference titles.
Cunningham went on to a successful career in Major League Soccer after leaving USF. He is fourth on the MLS all-time goals list.
Koepka led the Bulls to a pair of NCAA Championship Tournament appearances. It was USF’s first appearance in the tournament.
