The “War on I-4” lives on as the USF baseball team welcomes rival UCF for a three-game weekend series.
The series opens on Friday, February 28, at 6:30 p.m. followed by games on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.)
The Bulls are 5-3 under first-year coach Mitch Hannahs. UCF is 7-2.
USF Athletic Hall of Fame member Eddie Cardieri, the winningest coach in Bulls baseball history, will throw out the first pitch on Friday.
All games are on ESPN+ and Bulls Unlimited.
Softball team to battle top-ranked Texas
The USF softball team will see how it measures up to elite competition when the Bulls tangle with No. 1-ranked Texas at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin.
The Bulls (13-4) play the Longhorns on Friday, February 28, at 5 p.m. and will play them again on Sunday, March 2, at 1:30 p.m.
Both games will be carried on the SEC Network.
The Bulls also have games in Austin against New Mexico State, Abilene Christian, and Alabama A&M.
USF is currently on a three-game win streak, defeating Louisville, Kent State, and Troy.
Final home game Saturday for women’s basketball
Saturday night is the last chance to watch key women’s basketball team members play in person when the Bulls host East Carolina at 7 p.m.
The Bulls will bid farewell to graduate students Sammie Puisis, Mama Dembele, and Ines Piper.
Piper is injured and out for the season.
“Sammie has been a pleasure to coach for three years. The same goes for Mama as well. I only had one year to one year to coach her. But she is special, as is Piper.”
The Bulls, 20-9, will wrap up the regular season at Tulane on March 6 in a makeup of the originally scheduled January 22 contest that was postponed.
Chepenik earns AAC lacrosse honor
USF lacrosse standout Sofia Chepenik was named the American Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week after scoring 10 goals and 11 points in two games.
She had five goals each against No. 5 Florida and Towson. Chepenik leads the Bulls with 15 goals and five assists for 20 points.
The Bulls have dropped two straight after opening with their inaugural campaign with three wins. They’ll try to get back on the winning side Sunday at home against St. Bonaventure. The game is at 1 p.m.
Men’s basketball nears end of the season
USF plays its final home game Sunday against Florida Atlantic before heading to Memphis on Friday, March 7 at 9 p.m. for the regular-season finale.
The Bulls (13-16, 6-10) have dropped three straight games and four of their last five. The latest setback was a 73-71 loss at Temple when the Owls hit the winning shot at the buzzer.
It will be the last time at the Yuengling Center for senior Jamille Reynolds and graduate students Brandon Stroud, Kasen Jennings, and Quincy Ademokoya.
Ademokoya is injured and out for the season.
