USF news roundup: women's soccer qualifies for AAC tournament, v-ball win streak ends

The USF women’s soccer team has clinched a spot in the American Athletic Conference Championship tournament, scheduled to start November 4 at Lakewood Ranch.

The Bulls join defending champion Memphis and Rice in securing spots in the eight-team tournament.

USF is tied with Memphis for the top spot in the league with 17 points, although the Bulls have played one more conference game than the Tigers.

The Bulls are 10-2-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the AAC. They have won four straight games, including a 2-1 win on Sunday at North Texas. Also, junior midfielder Sadie Sider-Echenberg was named the AAC Offensive Player of the week.


She scored twice in USF’s 2-1 win over North Texas and she also drew a free kick against Temple, leading to the only goal in the Bulls' 1-0 win,

USF has lost only once since opening the season with a 5-0 loss to defending national champion Florida State.

The USF men’s team currently stands in third place behind defending champion Charlotte and Memphis. The men’s championship tournament begins November 8 with first-round games at campus sites.

USF hosts 21st-ranked Hofstra on Tuesday, October 22.

VolleyBulls fall short at Florida Atlantic

USF suffered its first conference loss Sunday in four sets at Florida Atlantic, dropping them to 7-1 in the AAC and 11-8 overall. It ended a seven-game winning streak for the Bulls.

Despite the loss, the Bulls remained in first place in the conference, one game ahead of Rice.

Junior Maria Clara Andrade reached 1,000 kills for her career in the contest. Andrade also extended her double-digit kill streak to 13 matches.

USF will be in Texas this weekend for matches against UTSA and North Texas.

Men’s golf gets national recognition

The USF men’s golf team was listed as No. 25 in the first National Collegiate Golf Rankings.

The Bulls built an impressive resume by finishing in tied for sixth at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate followed by a fifth-place finish at the Windon Memorial Classic in Lake Forest, Illinois. In that event, USF beat No. 15 Illinois and No. 18 Pepperdine.
 
Those are the only events USF has played this fall. Two scheduled tournaments were canceled by bad weather.

Their next event is the FAU Invitational on October 28.

USF starts “Tampa Bay Strong” outreach

In the wake of hurricanes Helene and Milton, USF is marketing “Tampa Bay Strong” t-shirts to benefit students impacted by the storms.

The shirts are $25 and can be The University of South Florida has partnered with Follett to create a special edition "Tampa Bay Strong" T-shirt, with proceeds directly benefiting students impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

They can be purchased online or at the Follett Bookstore on USF's Tampa campus next week.

Online orders can be shipped or picked up at the bookstores on all three USF campuses (Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee).

Men’s basketball offers free admission to exhibition

The defending regular-season AAC champion Bulls will debut their 2024-25 team with an exhibition against Edward Waters.

Tipoff is 7 p.m. at the Yuengling Center.

Admission and parking are free. Courtside and loge season-ticket holders have reserved seating while the rest of the arena is general admission.
