The USF baseball team is on a roll.
The Bulls completed their first three-game sweep of Tulane since 1993 with a 10-3 thrashing on Sunday. It was USF’s fifth consecutive win, moving the Bulls to 5-1 in the American Athletic Conference. That’s their best conference since 2015.
The Bulls, under first-year coach Mitch Hannahs, are tied with UTSA for second place in the conference, one game behind East Carolina. However, the team has a solid RPI ranking of 43. UTSA, at No. 71, is the next closest conference member to the Bulls.
Marcus Brodil and Carlos Jacome each had a career-high four RBI in Sunday’s win, which was USF’s ninth in its last 10 games.
The Bulls are at home on Tuesday, April 1, against Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. After that, seven of their next eight games are on the road, including AAC rivals Memphis and Rice.
Softball team concludes weird series at Wichita State
Who says there’s no tying in softball?
USF experienced one of those rare events on Sunday, as its conference game at Wichita State ended in a 7-7 deadlock.
The Bulls trailed 7-2 entering the seventh inning but scored five times to tie the game. The game had to end by 3:10 p.m. so USF could catch its flight home. After the Shockers didn’t score in the bottom of the seventh, it was declared a tie.
The Bulls were 1-1-1 in the three-game series and remain in second place in the conference standings.
They are off until Friday, April 4, when they begin a critical three-game series with AAC leader Florida Atlantic. The Owls are 32-5 overall and 11-1 in the conference, while USF is 29-10-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the AAC.
Lacrosse team continues impressive run
USF may be playing its inaugural season in women’s lacrosse, but the Bulls are looking like seasoned veterans. They routed AAC rival Vanderbilt 17-7 for their sixth straight win, moving them to 3-0 in the conference. They are tied for first place with James Madison. Other schools playing AAC lacrosse include Old Dominion, East Carolina, Vanderbilt, Temple, and Charlotte.
The Bulls have outscored their opponents by a combined 110-42 in those six wins. They have scored 11 or more goals in each game this season.
USF is now 9-2 overall, and the first-year program ranks 42nd in the NCAA’s RPI ratings. The Bulls only losses came against fourth-ranked Florida and 44th-ranked Towson.
The Bulls are at Charlotte on Friday and Liberty on Sunday before returning home on April 12 to face Old Dominion on Senior Day.
Men’s tennis keeps the heat on

USF has won nine straight matches and has enjoyed a top 25 rankings for three consecutive weeks.
In their latest matches, the Bulls drubbed Charlotte 6-1 and followed that with a 5-2 win at Liberty.
That makes it 15 wins in their last 16 matches.
The AAC championships will take place from April 17 to 20 in Memphis.
