The USF women’s lacrosse team will have a chance to compete for the American Athletic Conference championship in its inaugural season.

On Saturday, the Bulls beat Old Dominion 15-10 to clinch a spot in the AAC tournament. It will be held May 1-3 in Norfolk, Va.

USF is second in the AAC standings with a 4-1 record and 11-3 overall, while James Madison University currently sits at the top of the conference at 4-0. The Bulls are at James Madison on Saturday, April 19.

The Bulls fell behind Old Dominion 6-1 after 12 minutes but dominated play afterward.

Sofia Chepenik scored four goals to lead USF’s comeback. Her 46 goals lead the AAC.

Puisis awaits WNBA draft on Monday night

USF guard Sammie Puisis has received some national attention in advance of the WNBA draft.

NBA Draft Room had the 6-1 sharpshooter going in the second round -- 24th overall -- to the Minnesota Lynx. Former USF standout Courtney Williams also plays for the Lynx.

Puisis also drew some notice from the expansion Golden State Valkyries.

Her long-range shooting ability could make her attractive to any team looking for help in that area. She ranked fifth nationally in made 3-pointers. She also had 28 of USF’s 66 points in the Bulls’ opening-round NCAA tournament loss to Tennessee.

Softball earns home sweep over Tulsa

On Sunday, the Bulls polished off a three-game weekend wipeout of Tulsa with a 6-3 win to remain in second place in the AAC.

It was a nice bounce-back for USF after the Bulls lost two out of three last weekend against AAC leader Florida Atlantic.

The Bulls are 33-12-1 overall and 12-5-1 in the conference. They will next host AAC rival Memphis on April 17-19.

Women’s basketball team adds a player

The Bulls picked up point guard Stefanie Ingram from Florida Atlantic in the transfer portal.

"Stefanie is a pass-first point guard who can also score and get downhill. Her ability to find open teammates is exceptional,” Bulls coach Jose Fernandez said.

“She's a huge addition to our backcourt and brings experience and playmaking we're excited about."

Ingram led the Owls this season in assists (160), assists per game (5.0), and steals (42). And although she looks to pass, she’s not shy about launching from long range, either if the shot is there.

Her 36 made 3-pointers were second on the team.
