South Carolina State at a glance: The Bulldogs are a tough out on their level (FCS). They won the MEAC championship last season and finished 9-3.

It gets more difficult when SCS steps up in class, however. FearTheFCS.com reported that the Bulldogs are 0-26 lifetime against FBS teams, while USF is 28-1 against lower-classified programs. The lone loss came in 2013 against McNeese State.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 55-41 win over Bethune-Cookman, but the final score is deceiving. SCS jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter. It eventually stretched to 41-13 after three quarters.

The Wildcats rallied for 28 points in the final period.

Quarterback Ryan Stubblefield was 21-of-35 passing for 286 yards and a touchdown. The Bulldogs also gained 226 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, led by Mason Pickett-Hicks (87 yards and a touchdown on four carries).

USF at a glance: After the ballyhooed start to the season with three games against powerhouse programs, this is a different kind of test for the Bulls.

Can they come out with the same focus and intensity they showed against Boise State, Florida, and Miami? If they do, they should notch their third win in four tries heading into an open date.

The Bulls’ defense has generally made plays when it had to. Before last week’s 49-12 loss at Miami, USF had surrendered only two touchdowns in its first two games.

On offense, USF wants to kickstart its running game. The Bulls rank 125th out of 134 FBS teams in rushing, averaging just 95 yards per game on the ground.
